Impact font generator

Impact wasn’t designed for memes — it was drawn in 1965 by Geoffrey Lee for the Stephenson Blake foundry as a headline face that could shout from small newspaper ad spaces, hence the name. Its second life began when Microsoft bundled it as one of the “Core fonts for the Web,” which put Impact on virtually every Windows and Mac computer by the early 2000s. When the first image-macro sites appeared, they needed one ultra-bold font they could rely on everywhere — and Impact was practically the only candidate. Lolcats, Advice Animals and every “top text / bottom text” meme since inherited that accident of font distribution.

The styling conventions are pure pragmatism. Meme captions get pasted over unpredictable photos, so white letters with a thick black outline — about an eighth of the letter height, with rounded joins — stay readable over both bright skies and dark backgrounds, and ALL CAPS keeps short punchlines legible at thumbnail size. Newer formats have drifted toward plain sans-serif captions on white bars, but Impact-with-an-outline remains instantly recognizable shorthand for “this is a meme.” This generator reproduces that exact treatment and lets you export it on a transparent background, so you can drop authentic meme text into thumbnails, stream overlays or video edits without rebuilding the style by hand.
